Now that so much business is conducted over the internet, from e-commerce to simple email, security should be something that you always consider. Viruses, worms, trojans etc. are an ever present threat to the integrity of your business.

Less likely, but still a possibility, is the prospect of being directly targeted by crackers (the correct term for malicious hackers).

With today’s connected world and the ability to copy vast amounts of information easily, both physical and IT security should be on everyone’s agenda. As part of your review an assessment will be made of how aware your organisation is of the various threats and what measures are in place to mitigate these or respond to them should the worst happen.

Closely tied to security is the maintenance of your operating systems and software; most updates these days are to fix security issues. Even if you are behind a firewall it only takes one infected machine on your local network to cause problems.

Security is also part of information management, and how your systems are protected inside your network is just as important your protection at the Internet boundary.
